About Me

Welcome To Insightful Nutrition

I believe that everything happens for a reason. An illness can be a unique opportunity for unexpected growth and self-exploration.  My personal life-long challenges with digestive and weight issues led me on a quest for finding healing solutions. After numerous visits to doctors as well as having tried every popular diet and supplement on the market, I met a nutritionist who helped me realize the connection between my body’s specific health needs and the Standard American Diet (SAD).

These life-changing results and a desire to help others solve their health needs led me to pursue an undergraduate degree in Food & Nutritional Science at San Diego State University. I was a Peer Health Educator for the campus’ Body Image and Eating Disorders (BALANCE) Program, in addition to a Teaching Facilitator with Kaiser Permanente-Kids In Dynamic Shape (KP KIDS) Program, and a Research Assistant with SDSU Research Foundation’s MOVE/ME MOEVO Project: all tackling the widespread obesity and body image crisis in children and adults.

Thereafter, I moved to New York City for the Sodexo Metropolitan Dietetic Internship, which allowed me to put nutritional science into practice, and sit for my Registration exam to become a Registered Dietitian (RD).

I am currently working at a New York-based hospital where I provide Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) to people of diverse backgrounds and health needs. I counsel people about therapeutic nutrition and lifestyle changes to prevent and or manage their various acute and chronic conditions such as: heart disease, diabetes, cancer, renal disease, digestive disorders, obesity, and many more.

Through all of my years of personal and professional experiences, I found that combing the right diet and exercise plans can playa significant role in prevention and treatment of nearly all chronic and acute diseases. Given specialized knowledge, guidance, and support from a wellness professional, one could significantly enhance theirhealth without any deprivation. It’s all about moderation and finding the right life -food balance.

More Information

+ Who are Health Coaches (HC)?

Have you ever received good advice that you felt didn’t fit your needs? Has your doctor ever recommended a lifestyle change that you found to be unsustainable? Have you ever tried to achieve something, but found you couldn’t get it alone?

Health Coaches are knowledgeable advisors who provide ongoing support and guidance as you set goals and make sustainable changes that improve your health and happiness. As your Health Coach, I will listen carefully and help you navigate the world of contradictory nutrition advice to determine what changes are necessary for you.

+ Who are Registered Dietitians (RD)?

Registered Dieticians are food and nutrition experts who have met stringent academic and professional requirements.

  • Registered Dietitians (RDs) have at least a bachelor’s degree in the science of Nutrition or a related field from an accredited college or university approved by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education.
  • RDs must complete an internship and pass a national registration exam administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration. Continuing professional educational requirements must be met to maintain registration.
  • Some Registered Dietitians may choose to be called a nutritionist, but a nutritionist is not necessarily an RD.  The title “nutritionist” is a generic term for someone who may possess all of this training, or none of it.

+ What is Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT)?

Medical Nutrition Therapy is an essential component of comprehensive health care. Individuals with a variety of conditions and illnesses can improve their health and quality of life by receiving medical nutrition therapy. During an MNT intervention, RDs counsel clients on behavioral and lifestyle changes required to impact long-term eating habits and health.

Medical Nutrition Therapy includes:

  • Performing a Comprehensive Nutrition Assessment determining the nutrition diagnosis;
  • Planning and implementing a nutrition intervention using evidence-based nutrition practice guidelines;
  • Monitoring and evaluating an individual’s progress over subsequent visits with the RD.
